Criminal background checks for firearm sales in Colorado were in the thousands on Black Friday.
The shopping day after Thanksgiving is the busiest for the unit that processes the gun checks, according to officials.
“We definitely have been busy today and expected to be even busier through the weekend,” said Richard Taylor, manager of Firing Line, an Aurora gun store.
From accessories to handguns and long guns, Friday purchases ran the gamut, Taylor said.
Although the volume was high, fewer applications were processed Friday than on Black Friday of 2012, when more than 4,000 applications were processed — in part due to the massive backlog from weeks of soaring gun sales.
