SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents of the risk of earthquakes in the Midwest.
IEMA Director Jonathon Monken says it may come as a surprise that there’s a risk of a major earthquake in Illinois. But during the winter of 1811-1812, some of the largest quakes ever recorded in North America rocked the central United States, including parts of southern Illinois.
Monken says residents should remember “Drop, Cover and Hold On” when they feel the ground shaking.
